...FIRST MAJOR WINTER STORM OF THE SEASON BEGINNING TO IMPACT
ILLINOIS...

.A STRONG WINTER STORM SYSTEM IS NOW MOVING INTO THE REGION. A
SHARP COLD FRONT PASSED THROUGH OVERNIGHT...BRINGING FALLING
TEMPERATURES INTO THE 30S ALONG WITH WIDESPREAD RAIN. AS THE
SURFACE TEMPERATURES FALL BELOW THE FREEZING MARK...THE RAIN WILL
BEGIN TO FORM A GLAZE ON EXPOSED SURFACES. AS THE COLD AIR
CONTINUES TO PUSH EASTWARD...THE FREEZING RAIN WILL CHANGE TO
SLEET THEN SNOW. TOTAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS THROUGH THIS EVENING MAY
EXCEED ONE QUARTER INCH IN SOME LOCATIONS. AFTER THE PRECIPITATION
CHANGES TO SNOW...ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 12 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE
ON TOP OF THE ICE OVER CENTRAL ILLINOIS. SLIGHTLY LESSER AMOUNTS
OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED OVER EASTERN AND SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS. WINDY
CONDITIONS WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...
ESPECIALLY LATE TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING. THE OVERALL
PRECIPITATION AREA IS EXPECTED TO DIMINISH TOWARD MIDDAY FRIDAY.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LINCOLN HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 12 PM
CST FRIDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

A SHARP COLD FRONT HAS MOVED THROUGH EASTERN ILLINOIS...BRINGING
WIDESPREAD RAIN. AS TEMPERATURES FALL BELOW THE FREEZING MARK
TOWARD MIDDAY...THE RAIN WILL CHANGE TO FREEZING RAIN. ICE
ACCUMULATIONS AROUND ONE QUARTER INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE. THE
PRECIPITATION WILL THEN TURN TO SLEET...THEN SNOW. TOTAL SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES ON TOP OF THE ICE WILL BE POSSIBLE
BY THE TIME THE SNOW TAPERS OFF TOWARD MIDDAY FRIDAY. WINDY
CONDITIONS WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
